Allende tried to do this in the 90's until he was overthrown in '92 by a CIA-plotted military coup that led to a brutally repressive fascist regime under former general Augusto Pinochet. to wrap up, if you are still under Post-McCarthyist impressions, the Soviet Union was not socialist, nor was Vietnam, nor is China (both are authoritarian capitalist states) nor has any socialist society ever yet existed. socialist societies are democratic by definition, and the U.S. has played a huge role in repressing socialist movements and overthrowing democratically-elected socialist leaders.

You have the right to protest, but when you are in the street disrupting traffic, or do not have the permits to be where you are (this is for the safety of those that wish to ignore you) the police can ask you to move.

The video conviently doesn't show what lead up to her being tasered. But I think we can deduce several things.

1) She is wearing a mask, which is illegal during protests.

2) She was not obeying the lawful commands of the police (otherwise, she wouldn't be lying on her back).

3) She was WAY overreacting to the taser. I don't have personal experience, but I've talked to several people who gone through it (police oficers, btw). A taser is more paralyzing than painful. Once the taser is turned off, the pain is gone.

As I've always said, pay attention to the nice officers and DO WHAT YOU ARE TOLD! The cops are better armed and have more friends than you!

There are few problems in the Galaxy which cannot be solved by the suitable
application of concentrated blaster fire.

Thats what I saw too..but of course, in the heat of the moment it's hard to make the right call, oh well, chock one up to "let the police do their job" even if they are too extreme, i've felt tasers, its about as much fun as hammering a nail thru your elbow, and in the moment, You arent LISTENING, your trying to make the pain stop, so the law enforcement officials need to back off the trigger quicker if they want complience, but then, what fun would that be?

I've never been tazered before (knock wood), so I wouldn't know. But, it doesn't look like much fun.
There are good cops out there (none of them seem to be here in NYC, though), but the bad cops fuck it up for all of them. The bad cops are the one's that create the distrust that so many people have for cops.
They assume that everybody is a danger to them until they find out the facts for their own saftey. So, I don't see anything wrong with assuming that all cops are corrupt until I find out the facts for my own saftey.
I've seen too much police brutality & police neglegence in my life to blindly trust any cop.
They're never there when you need them.

Once, I was walking through the park on my way to school & this nasty guy was harassing me (you know, cat calling, etc.).
Then, he ran up behind me, grabbed me & started to man-handle me (this is in public in broad daylight in a heavily policed area-parks are always heavily policed in NYC). It seemed like he was trying to force me to go somewhere with him. I don't even want to know what else he had planned.
No police ...
I was screaming, thrashing & causing a scene.
Still, no police ...
I had to stab this guy in the face & shoulder (I carry a box blade in my back pocket at all times) to get him to let me go (I'd bet he wasn't expecting a small, white girl to do that).
As he was writhing on the ground like the little bitch he was, I ran away (obviously).
(the next day, I bought a stun gun & mase to accompany my box blade & I joined a self defense class)

Do you know where the damn cops were ? They were a 1/2 a block outside of the park (well within shouting distance from where the thing with that guy was going on).
For some strange reason, 12 cops (I counted) were standing around chatting it up with eachother & smoking cigarettes (there's not supposed to be more than 2 cops together unless back up is needed & they're not allowed to smoke in uniform).
They should've been spread out, on their beat & protecting the general public. Instead, they were having a mini party on city time while a young girl (me) was being assaulted a very short distance away.

Fucking pigs.

I took the time to find out what the deal was on the incident. it was a demonstration against "recruitment" offices, a cameraman bullshited the police about his camera being broken by the crowd so the police arived in force with "shut these people down" mentality, before they knew the facts of the matter, the incident is still under investigation (why people would protest recruitment of our armed forces is beyond Me, but they felt the need to protest I guess, dumbasses.) anyway, a woman was bitten by a police dog and later returned to get information from the officers on how to file a complaint for the bite incident and was taken into custudy(guess she was needing a little intimidation?) the whole situation was bizarre at the least, but its still not very pretty when folks get all heated up and hollering. I really appreciate folks with balls enough to keep the camera rolling when the police say to shut it off and leave, the police are there to serve and protect, not get away with taking agression out on the unpopular opinion crowd.

you'd be suprised what a little 125lbs lady can accomplish. i have personally been thrown across a room by one, and i weigh about 240lbs. She and i were sparring and BAM, there i was, halfway across the room.
