Jumping that van took a little more thought and gumption than the typical pack of unwashed hippies have. They'd be worried about burning those precious extra ounces of fossil fuels, plus, if they trash their van, what are they going to go out hunting mushrooms in? They sure as shit aint gonna walk.

I've done almost that very thing in a 2wd Ford Ranger. I was the passenger, and scared shitless. Jumping tracks with some asshole behind the wheel isn't a good idea.

we used to routinely do that in a '81 rabbit at this one traffic light where there was a crown in the road that intersected our path. rather than wait for the light, we would see the green as we were coming around the sweeping bend in the road before the light and then and hammer down (all 53 screamin' ponies of naturally aspirated diesel power). my brother got like 30 feet of air once.

we called the routine "air rabbit".

Oh yes...the naturally aspirated diesel engine. I do believe my sister had a Peugot that was that way. A somewhat over sized turd with seating for 2 1/2.

The one time my "friend" decided we were JUMPIN TRACKS (as he used to announce it) he drove to a set he had just found where the tracks were literally 10 feet higher than the normal road surface, and the road had a very steep slope on either side. He hits this fucker in 2nd gear, and for a split second as the rear end kept climbing as the front end sort of just hugged the road I think I felt the front bumper scrape. Then as we went down the other side I remember thinking "holy shit we didn't go end over end"

Thats about the time I stopped hanging out with him.
Later on he found a grocery store with a small dirt lane behind it. There as if God himself put it there, a dirt jump big enough for a truck.

He hits this jump, buries the bumper into the ground hard enough on landing that the impact sensor on the fuel pump cuts out leaving him stranded until he figured out how to reset it.

I'll tell you the story about his girlfriend that liked to go mud bogging another day. That day was actually fun.

They just don't build them like that anymore....

I would definetly like to try.. we did some things like this with my demolition car once.
