Thats the beauty of drag racing... you dont have to be the fastest to win... and theres bracket racing where you try to repeat your timed run as closely as possable on multiple runs but not break out... and a regular drag... your opponent can cross the center line or blow an engine or red light any combination of which makes you a winner.

As a former bracket racer (1978-84) I can testify that the guy to beat most weekends was driving a 1972 Ford Maverick 6 cylinder. He wasnt fast, but consistency and reaction time at the green light is what wins that game. This guy had it whipped

We were all just Saturday night racers at the local drag strip. There wasnt a car among us that arrived on a trailer, and 90% of us drove the same car to work on Monday morning. Top eliminator got $100. Kept us off the streets. The only sanctioning body was the local police The NHRA came for events twice a year.

I don't have to attend every argument I'm invited to.

This is an age in which one cannot find common sense without a search warrant.

My ex father in law runs a super eliminator rail. Drag racing is fascinating, and the prettiest cars don't usually win unless they have 1000 sponsor stickers on them.

I'd be willing to bet the station wagon was just the body, set up with a 4 link rear and about a 600 to 800 hp engine, along with a 4140 tubular frame.

Its a door slammer that isn't a Chevelle.

That was a beautiful sight!! I used to laugh when people pulled up beside me in their rice-rockets and thought my "old" 1988 Monte Carlo SS with a bored out 350 was too "big and old" to beat them - bye bye!!
"Sleeprs" like that one are just classic = not much to look at but "Go BABY GO!"
