They don't. It's unmanned and, I believe, only supposed to serve as a relay for communications.

If you could collect 100% of the suns energy, 1 sq meter is about 1000 watts.

That aint too bad. What is too bad is we are no where CLOSE to 100% efficiency on anything.

And the cost is astounding for solar panels. It would take 100's of years to recoup the cost if you wanted to power your house with solar panels.
