My wife & my Mom witnessed someone die falling out of the back of a pickup.

He was helping someone move. They had a mattress & box spring laying in the back of the truck, with a smallish dresser on top (along with the victim.) When they got to a 45 mph zone & the wind caught the dresser, he tried to catch it to stop it from falling out. He ended up going over with it. He hit his head on the pavement, cracking his skull and died on the scene.

The real shame is that a few cents worth of rope would have prevented the whole thing.
