Bullshit that's the first time He's heard it..I would help speak it out with that guy too considering the fiasco that Katrina brought on. This administration basically "fucked up" and they won't even admit to it.

See, thats where you are wrong.
No one fucked up anything.

The levys broke AFTER the hurricane came through. They were designed to hold back CAT3 storms. After the CAT5 passed, then they broke.

The governor of LA and the Mayor of NO both had plans in place in case of a CAT5, but neither did anything about it.

"The Administration" as your kind likes to put it, knew about the disaster the same time you did. What did you do?

The affected area is 400 square MILES!!!
Thats quite a bit of land mass to take care of.

On a related note, the 9-11 attack covered 16 square blocks.
A bit easier to assemble something in a smaller area don't you think?

Well, no, you don't think.

Spoken like the true brownshirt You are. You seem to think that becuse I don't think like You means I don't think, well, "fuck You Mr. Monkey"
The fact that the first responders in were recognised as Canadian is enough to make a laughingstock of Our Federal Govt.
The local governments were totally wiped out, how COULD they respond? When the national guard units should have been in there helping, they were held back, ok, they were off in a foriegn country protecting big oil, but thats another debate. The fact still remains, 48 hours or more before federal help arrives in N.O., when people are drowning in their own homes? Looks bad to Me, but who the hell am I eh?
As far as "what did I do" goes, what COULD I do? I gave to the red cross, and the salvation army, but its not like I could have hopped in My C-130 and brought MREs and water a little quicker than Our illustrious leaders could have. Your comparing apples and oranges when asking what I did, what an ass..... And just so You know, I am independant as far as political affiliations go, the party system has failed us, it is time for some change, like maybe someone to rise above the "most cash in the pocket Presidency", sorry for being jaded in the open, but its a joke to think Republicans and Democrats are really that different, after checking the voting records of our leaders its plain as day, there is no real accountability in this country anymore. The biggest fear I have is the fact that there is NO country to escape to like people could do during WW2 and that era. it's a worldwide problem.
I think it funny that Your pompus ass cant see how fascist You really are, go read some history books(not the ones they pump out now that give Maralyn Monroe more ink than any three of our founding fathers combined), its amazing how it is happening all over again under "new" reasons to make people holler for "peace and safety"...
Uhg, I promised Myself I wouldnt argue with an idiot...shit, sorry about that, maybe You would be forgiving and hand Me a copy of the constitution that is so easily ignored these days under the "patriot act" by Your administrative heros, and let Me get back to studying why people "choose" to be ignorant to the rights slipping away from them for a little "safety"....
Time to go smoke some of that stuff they wrote the constitution on...
Oh yeah, bye the way, I really really don't mean You any disrespect, but We are good at yankin each others chain...LOL , jsut don't ask to yank anything else and all is good.

slither, I agree with you to an extent, but one thing you have to realize is that our "founding fathers" were actually imperialists themselves. you should read Pox Americana, which I'm reading for my graduate social theory course right now. from the beginning U.S. "democracy" hasn't been about the rights of the people, but about the rights of landed aristocrats (capitalists). more on that in a moment. as for Katrina, it is true that the local government had a poor response. I just graduated from the University of New Orleans and I know that they have known for years that a category 4 or 5 hurricane would put the city under several feet of water. and you are right that the administration (and yes, Monkey, it's called an administration) responded complacently because the people in jeopardy were poor black people. it was entirely possible to get into the city, as shown by the university students who drove there with phony press passes. also, the media sensationalized as few people who were shooting at rescue helicopters and a few incidents of violence in the Superdome, making this seem like the rule, rather than the exception. this actually links directly with U.S. imperialism, since racial ideology has existed alongside imperialism from the beginning as justification. one thing I should point out at this point is that imperialism is not the outcome of the evil plottings of a few conspiring capitalists (Bush etc.). it is a natural outgrowth of capitalism. the democrats are no better than the republicans; they simply cater a little bit more to working-class interests, and essentially provide a buffer against meaningful change. Thomas Jefferson himself was the real architect of the genocide and confiscation of land of settled native-americans that eventually became the Jacksonian policy of "Indian Removal." the U.S. has its very roots in racist imperialism. the Spanish-American war was essentially a seizure of the Spanish empire by the U.S. when the Filipino natives had successfully overthrown the Spanish in the Philippines, and had Spanish troops surrounded in Manila, the U.S. went in, were allowed to cross Filipino lines, and what did they do? the made a pact with the Spanish and took control of Manila, then fought a bloody war to repress the Filipinos. they killed some 250,000 Filipinos and wounded many more. this essentially parallels the Vietnam War. the Vietnamese beat the French, and the U.S. went in to supress the Vietnamese. the Vietnamese population, like the Filipinos, were against the U.S. and supported Ho Chi Minh the entire time. these are only very brief and incomplete comments on these wars, and these wars are only a very tiny part of the U.S. legacy of imperialism. I only wish I had time to write more, but read Pox Americana and you'll learn a lot. it all comes down to a real knowledge of history, as opposed to the lies fed to us in school. another important thing I should mention is that the war in Iraq has more to do with the U.S. making a statement to the world, than with oil. oil is indeed a central factor in why the U.S. chose to make the statement where they did, but it all comes down to the fact that U.S. hegemony is waning. the European Union and China are getting very strong, and U.S. capitalists are very worried. if people don't start realizing what's going on - if we don't start learning about history, these capitalists will leave the U.S. economy in shambles and they will escape like the thieves they are. one last thing, I have dispelled this myth more than once already on ugoto, but I'll do it again: the unemployed are a fundamental element of a capitalist economy. it has absolutely nothing to do with laziness or a "culture of poverty." these notions have racist capitalist ideology as their underlying foundations. there simply aren't enough jobs available in the economy. period. and most of the jobs that are available only pay enough for people to barely scrape by anyway. that's how capitalism works. the capitalist takes the profits and pays the worker a subsistence wage, because the supply of unskilled labor is greater than the demand. only mental laborers in capitalism are able to realize a small portion of the surplus-value they produce in their labor-time, because their skills are sometimes in greater demand than supply. if you want to really learn about the reality of what is happening in the world, read Capital: Volume I, Foundations of Historical Materialism, Monopoly Capital, Pox Americana, and Reason and Revolution. that at least would be a good start. I would read the section at the end of Capital on "The Secret to So-Called Primitive Accumulation" first. I guess I should end by mentioning that the legacy of McCarthyism has left Americans with the impression that anything to do with Marx must mean totalitarian Soviet "communism." first of all, the Soviet Union was never a socialist society. it was essentially state-planned capitalism, just as China and Vietnam now are. Marx is regarded as the greatest of all the founders of social theory outside of the U.S. only in the U.S. is Marx marginalized. I would say this has to do with bourgeois ideology and the U.S.' still-existing, but waning, world-hegemony. no socialist society has yet existed, since socialism is democratic by definition. Chile was for 2 years, but the CIA incited a military coup against Allende, leading to the brutally repressive fascist dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet (the files on this coup have been released under the Freedom of Information Act. this is not sketchy conspiracy theory, but documented fact. the U.S. was also involved in the attempted, and failed, coup against Hugo Chavez. fortunately the people rose up quickly enough to overthrow Pedro Carmona and bring Chavez back to power. Marxist theory is essential for an understanding of capitalism. neoclassical economics explains even less than classical economics. it is pure ideology. Marx never prescribed a specific way to organize society, but he did say that capitalism is undemocratic by its very nature, and that, to avoid the polarization, atrocities, and ecological destruction inherent in capitalism, there must be a true balance of power in society. "it is the nature of a system that determines the psychology of its members, and not vice versa" (Baran and Sweezy in "Monopoly Capital").

Good points made although I would insist that You consider the fact that capitalism IS the best policy throughout history, not nearly as bloody and corrupt as most other forms of government. The U.S. has become its own worst enemy by allowing corporations to run rampant, but it was all predicted thousands of Years ago so theres really no fighting whats coming, The basic problem with ALL forms of Government is that they are planned and administered by people, ALL of us people on the planet have weaknesses, so it flows into our ideologies and our viewpoints on how to treat others........including governments, debates and barfights.....
I quit posting on ugoto a while back because I basically decided to go out into the "real" world and get something accomplished instead of sitting in front of My "Orwellian receptor" and jsut talking about what should be done.
Thanks for the history lesson (although it was a repeat of My college days and I understand where You are coming from)......

Anyway, Touche' on the relax and klingon thingy..LOL I put milky way galaxy because fucksnots like monkey are hard to deal with, He reminds me of people who think spammers are "legitamatly making a living", that goes for adware writers and spyware writers for that matter....
As far as saving a tree goes, read Our Governments publications on Hemp from 100 years ago and You will see that we could have saved MANY trees and made biodegradable plastics to boot, but oil money and pharmaseutical interests shot that down in the early part of the last century. Things arent always as they seem, and it boggles My mind how we beleive everything we hear so quickly.....we gotta do our research folks.
Ok, I will go lighten up now

But yeah Bush has messed up he has admited it, but they have known since the 20s of the levee issue, and thats the cause of this disaster.
