The glass could be the problem, especially depending on the store lighting. But mostly the guy was probably distracted and the strip of carpet runner fooled him. Look at how it lines up with the exit and come right to the (other side) of the glass wall.

And how dumb is that anyway. Who puts the mat at the exit. Thanks for shopping, please wipe your feet ON YOUR WAY OUT

Just how filthy are the floors in there that they think you need to wipe your feet so you don't track up the city streets

Anyway I've seen lots of Dumb Criminal videos where the perp is so distracted by making a clean getaway that they walk right into solid matter as well as clear glass walls in their exit attempt. I'm talking eyes forward but not looking, full tilt runs

This type of accident probably happens all the time too, though in most stores I've seen that clear wall is prime advertising space so you can't hardly see through it for all the flyer pages and in store specials.
