I haven't seen it personally but I've seen the after effects of a left hand turn (here in the US left hand turns are what kills motorcyclists). One accident scene I saw was a woman that had turned in front of an on coming motorcycle, and he didn't hit the side of her car, he hit the right front corner. Possibly the strongest point he could have hit. The next part of the car that was damaged was the windshield and roof of her car from him flying "superman" style off his bike. He landed on the trunk of her car and rolled off onto the pavement.

As I was driving past, the medi-vac helicopter landed right next to my truck. I looked over at the accident and the dudes helmet was cracked and broken.

Thats a pretty damn hard hit, and the speed limit on the road is about 40 mph. If she wasn't moving, but he was, then it was a 40mph accident (to get a perspective, it would be the same as if both vehicles were moving only 20mph towards each other)

Wow. I saw almost the same thing in Wisconsin, but I don't know all the details. Driver made a left turn, biker hit. I was on my way to work and got stopped by the police so the chopper could land in the road. Nasty stuff.

technicly it wouldnt be the same as both of them going 20MPH, because of momentum

if the car was going 20 mph, it would have more momentum then a bike going 20mph, but since the car was still it had no momemtum

What I meant was the bike was going 40, and she was stopped.

there really should be more exposure to this sort of accident, like in drivers ed. when kids are getting their DLs.

a guy left my house one night and a woman mistook his single headlight for 2 headlights in the far distance, made a left turn in front of him. he was comatose for a week and hospitalized for at least a month. it took a couple of years for him to really recover and he still walks witha limp. because of that i refuse to ride a motorcycle. you can be the most careful driver ever and if someone isnt paying attention, Splat
