That is a Rube Goldberg Machine.

So named after the cartoonist who used to draw convoluted, complex machines to do the simplest mundane everyday chores... like an eyelid blinker.

Another example would be the game " Mouse Trap "

Actually, the best one i ever saw was the Honda commercial where they made different parts of the car as part of the machine. i think it's on this site back a year or so ago. however, these are real clever too....
