You are dead right.

There is about 800amps in a standard car battery at 12V. 50ma is enough to stop your heart. I've seen what happens when you touch 2 terminals together on a car battery. You don't get little sparks. You don't light a little light bulb. The wires catch on fire instantly, and anything else in the area touching the wires catches on fire or is electrocuted.

What they were doing was really really fucking gay.

Through work and personal stuff, I have given probably more than 500 boosts. That and working on cars for 20+ years has given me lots of experience with Ooopsies involving the car battery. I have never had the wires melt - you must be using some really cheap wires! Usually a quick tap like they were doing results in sparks like that. I think you maybe haven't had a lot of experience with car/marine batteries if you really believe what you said is what happens.

However, a dead short across the terminals for long enough can result in a battery explosion.

DC is more dangerous than AC, although no one should be fooled by that into thinking that AC will not kill you if you are electrocuted.

My point was - they are doing nothing dangerous or painful to the guy because he isn't getting shocks. He is just posing with stupid expressions like he is enjoying it or hurt by it. He ain't feeling a darn thing. Unless they held the wires together the handles would not even get hot. And if you have ever tried to diagnose a short in a car you would have used a light test exactly the way they do - except you would be touching where your suspected fault was, not just lighting the battery.

Like I said - its just lame. SOme fake videos you look at and go - wow... was that real or fake? This one - not so much. It was obviously a stupid setup from first viewing.

Last week while I was tightening down positive cable on my car battery with a box wrench I managed to clip the ground side at the same time. It sucked :) the wrench got REALLY hot REALLY fast. The whole thing lasted less than a second, but managed to burn my hand, melt the metal wrench a little bit and dented my moms car as i threw the wrench across the driveway...

I once welded a huge screwdriver into an electrical outlet I did not know was live. I never felt a tingle, because the current went through the metal screwdriver to the easiest route to ground - the box. And early this summer melted a chunk out of a screwdriver while poking around under the hood of the car trying to find out why the blower fan wasn't working. Lots of noise, big flash and sparks, and a piece of the screwdriver was left welded to a chunk of car, but once again, no shock. If we had any doubts about whether our booster cables were working when we were trying to boost someone the fast and dirty way to make sure you had something was to tap them together really fast. No sparks, no connection, no juice.

Well, I have done it enough times - the sparks don't hurt. Touch yourself and let the current run through you - that hurts.

And if the point was to throw sparks, what was the point of the bulb bit?
