I think that airbag is meant more for security reasons. When someone tries to get on your bike without you knowing the airbag deploys and shoots them off the back.

well, it would be better than losing your testicles in an accident. I heard on the radio about a surgeon who spends a lot of his time reattaching testicles that get removed (or partially) in motorbike accidents. The fuel tanks tend to want to remove them!!
