They were usually bamboo needles for playing shellac gramophone records. Although records could be played using steel needles, steel was blunted much quicker than the fibre of bamboo.

A bris is a religious ceremony within Judaism to welcome infant Jewish boys into a covenant between God and the Children of Israel through ritual circumcision performed by a mohel ("circumciser"), on the eighth day of the child's life unless health reasons force a delay, in the presence of family and friends, followed by a celebratory meal (seudat mitzvah).

Only if the tile is roughly the size of a matchstick, but with a triangular cross section.

That has got to be the biggest hint I can give... but you've still got to know of the existence of the item to know what the devices are for.

My dad found one of these devices, with a box of the related items, over 35 years ago (I think he still has it), and had to tell me what they were.

Its a cutter/trimmer for fibre gramophone needles. As the needles wear down, you just trim them to a new point.
