I live in a rural area, without a hospital too. if there is a real emergency you get life flighted from the nearest clinic to a major city. for us the nearest surgeons hospital is 120 miles away.

NO way thats really bad man I have 2 emergency hospitals in my vacinity and loads of 24 hour m inor injury clincs too, I can't imagine being in the sticks and needing hospital treatment!!!

There are hospitals in the area, sort of, but they are all Avera clinics, and the most they can handle is delivering a baby.

they dont do a whole lot besides tell you that you need to go elsewhere for treatment
