In engineering there is a common phrase used that is "If it doesn't shake, it will break" meaning if a material has a lower modulus of elastisity it can move with out yielding as opposed to more rigid materials that will yield, and fail before they bend very far.

Watch a steel roller coaster the next time you get a chance, especially on the loops. You'll see the whole damn thing move as the train goes around.
