Okay sarcasm will get you no where - so it is completly impossible given where the pipes came out the front that an inch or two in either direction could have meant his life?

The pipe narrowly missing him was the point of the picture... and you must have toy trucks with the brake pedals on the passenger side... the pipes are clearly shown exiting thru the passenger front window... are you Blonde?

You do not need brakes on the passenger side for this to happen. If you brake abruptly, everything that is unsecured will move from the force. If something happens to be on either side of the trailer, it will project in that direction unless someting holds it back. If you brake to avoid an accident, does the passenger not go forward, because there is no braking done on their side?
Think about it, and there will be a exam later.

Most rigs hauling flatbed loads have a backboard installed behind the cab (called a headache board for obvious reasons) to prevent this kind of accident. Seems they should be mandatory

I've seen something like this first hand. The cross sectional area of a pipe is small enough at a high velocity to penetrate just about anything really. You have mass, low surface area, and high velocity.....

I like to stay away from trucks on the road. Its a hard enough job with out be riding right next to them.
