Probably the same way walking under a ladder can bring you bad luck, because the idiot on the ladder dropped something on the person under it. I truly don't believe in superstitions, I even break chain letters.

because there is very little room on a sub, with no room for seperate quarters for men and women.

that and the fact that women can be a distraction from your job when you haven't had any for a couple monthes.

submarines use sonar, for the most part, bunny, not radar.

I find it highly unlikely that it was a collision due to the fact that it would have sunk. Most likely a meltdown or explosion while at port.

And the idea about how women bring bad luck to ships goes back centuries. Mostly the concern is pregnancy. Due to the fact that ships can be out at sea for indefinite periods. And of course the distraction a woman can cause to flesh hungry sailors is GREAT!
