Nothing exploded. He's in such an incredibly aerodynamic boat going so fast that air caught the bottom of the boat and it literally began to fly...trouble is, there's no way to control it once it does that, so it typically flips around, hits the water, and breaks into several thousand pieces.

That guy just lost a very expensive boat.
