What a dick. This is a good example of why many people have limited respect for the cops.

The guy is parked illegally. There is no stipulation in the law that says if you leave a nice note the cop shouldn't ticket you.
If the starter was out, and he was parked illegally, he should have either had someone tow him to a different location or pushed it somewhere else. It all comes down to personal responsibility and NOT MAKING EXCUSES for your actions. If you're wrong, then you're wrong. Not Juan, Carlito, Jennifer, or anyone else.

Exactly! I'm not the biggest fan of cops but it's true that people do this type of stuff all the time to get in and out of places quicker cause they're too lazy to find a spot! And also what Wes said "How long was this ASAP?" you just never know the true situation from the picture.

WOW...I guess maybe I should explain a bit. I come from a quite small town where everyone knows the one paid cop in town!!! In these parts the copper in question would at least wait till the next day. I know it isnt this way everywhere but I am glad to know that I wouldnt go through this. It is pretty obvious that this is quite a harmless "crime". Sorry guys..I meant no harm...really!!!! Truce?-----I'll buy a round of

No worries bigdaddy. You think you live in a small town? We had a couple of boys get rowdy after leaving the bar one night. They got into a friendly fight and one was pushed into a big plate glass window of the local department store. No injury luckily. So the one guy goes back to the bar to call the store owner while his buddy stands guard so nothing gets stolen. Nobody else around at that time mind you but stil That's the kind of "crime" I can live with, unlike the vandal who kicked a nice dent in my car

There's good days and bad I guess, and good folk and not so.

Cruel cop? In order to park illegally, didn't the engine have to be running? What do you need a started for while the engine is running. This moron probably parked illegally and then couldn't leave because of the starter so then tried to use the started as his excuse. Sorry, the ticket is for parking, not having a failed starter.

Amen to most of the replies! If people have no respect for the law they should not expect any help from it. Next time you want to break an inconvienient law like parking think about if you ever need 911 to save your ass from a "real" criminal.

911 operator "This is 911, what is your emergency?"

"Somebody just shot the lock off my door and broke in, I think they're going to kill me!"

911 operator "I see your address is 123 Scoff Law lane. You have several outstanding parking fines, it seems you don't think the law applies to you. If you'd like to pay those fines now we accept any major credit card. Once you are a law abiding citizen then I can send the police to deal with your situation."

Your Kidding right? your saying that if you have unpaid parking tickets and the shoe's on the other foot and you need the laws help to save your life that they say how bout you pay your fines and they see what they can do for u....
You are joking right? cause thats pretty fucked up!

I mean breaking the law is breaking the law but an unpaid parking ticket is nothing compared to half the shit real crims do

Damn that shit is whack

Yeah, well not so much kidding as exagerating to make the case. It would be fucked up but I can see it coming to that. It has in the past, even in the US. In some places if you didn't pay protection money to the cop on the beat they'd look the other way while you got ripped off. Similarily if you weren't on the rolls as a supporter of the fire brigade they didn't come and save your house if it caught fire. They would check the address before they even left the fire hall.

If you as a citizen want to hold the law and emergency response to high moral standards and expect them to answer when you need them you had better damn well be practicing the same in my books. Do I truly think you should be denied the law because you break it? No. Will I have any sympathy for you if you lead a life of breaking the law and then suddenly need it? No.

Funny (or not) related personal notes. I've been ticketed for overparking (meter run out) twice, well only once actually.

The once was while I was in the Army recruiting office doing my interview and testing to sign up. I came out to find my car ticketed, c'est la vie

It seemed a bit unfair at the time as I was only late because I was joining to serve and protect in my own way, but I liked the irony and afterall I was overparked.

The other time was years later, I was only a couple minutes late, and came around the corner to see the cop standing by my car looking at it with the ticket book in hand. I figured dang, busted.

So I walk up and say "Good afternoon constable." He says "Good afternoon, this your car?" I grin "Yep, guess I was a little too long, how much is the ticket?" And he says, "What make is it?"

I had removed all the badging as part of the customizing treatment but it still looked stock. It was a GMC, a little rare, and similar to both Ford and Chev makes of the same body, but different enough that he knew it wasn't either but not sure what to put on the ticket.

So I tell him and we talk cars for a minute then he remarks it's nice, folds up his book and says "Have a good day sir."

I did

So don't hate the police. They are doing a tough job and deal with assholes all day, don't be another one. They are just ordinary people, respect them and the law, and you get back in kind. Break the law and you have whatever justice is coming due you.

When I was younger I had a similar thing happen.
Driving a fully restored 1970 Chevelle Super Sport down main street at 2am. A little fast, but nothing crazy.
Cop pulls me over, asks where I'm headed. I tell him "nowhere. Just out driving."
And the guy tells me about my speed.

Then he asks "Is this a 396 with a 400TH?"
And we talked cars for 15 minutes.
At 2am.
And he told me to have a nice night and that was it.

I was at a wedding last year, and the reception hall was downtown. Everyone had parked at the meters (nowhere else to park) and a couple had just ran out including the bride and grooms car, when a meter-maid came by. I begged that asshole for 10 minutes no to ticket the cars, especially not the bride and groom's, he was going to do it anyway. He started to write the first ticket, a couple of friends and I put quarters in over 30 meters, including one he was about to start writing a ticket on. He said what we were doing was against the law, and he called a real cop. Within five minutes the officer was there, I explained about the wedding and all, he told us not to worry about the meters, and that he would dismiss the tickets that were written. I invited him in to visit the open bar, but he said his shift wasn't over for another 3 hours, I told him to come on by, when he gets off. Suprisingly he showed up around 7 pm, and I'll tell ya, that boy could drink.

Excuse me ma'am, I lost my puppy in the back of that van, wanna help me find it?

If you're talking about the person who expected to get away with parking illegally, you're right.

Most places, if the issue is a time limit, alternate parking, etc, then all you have to do is call the police department, let them know you're having problems, and that you'll move it as soon as you can, and they'll make a note of it & give you a break.

For all we know, the note was placed under the ticket to make it look worse, too.

I do not agree with a word that you say, but will defend to the death your right
to say it.
