They went on strike the week before Christmas.
Not only did it screw over 7 million people in terms of getting to & from work.
But, the week before Christmas is the biggest shopping week of the year. Stores get out of the red during that week. That week's business is more than needed for mom & pop operations.
And, for the NYC economy as a whole.
They screwed over countless tourists who were just here to patronize this great city & ended up dealing with that crap.
A firefighter got run over by a private bus while riding his bike to work because he couldn't take the subway, because the TWU was on strike.
And, it was freezing that week. You try walking over the Brooklyn Bridge in 20 degree weather. It's incredibly windy & the cold cuts right through you.
Not only that, but if the whole city is worried about the transit strike, we are more vulnerable to another terrorist attack.
Furthermore, IT WAS AN ILLEGAL STRIKE !!!
They had no legal right to go on strike.
More over, they don't work that hard. Take it from me, I'm a straphanger. They do next to nothing.

The transit strike of 2005 was selfish, inconsiderate, uncouth & most of all illegal.

And, they didn't even get a new contract out of the whole thing.

the soldier made the sign. these 2 kids are lucky to be alive by the way. over 100,000 Iraqis have died in the conflict. and most Iraqis aren't as appreciative as Fox News would have you believe. most of them see the real motives of the CIA and Bush administration (oil, duh, but hegemony in general is also a major motivator). we could be using our military to stop the genocide going on in Darfur, but instead we're using it to commit genocide in Iraq. by the way, if we want to end undemocratic regimes, why not start right here in the U.S. and end the tyranny within the U.S., and the tyranny of the U.S. (CIA) in inciting military overthrows of democratic governments and replacing them with brutally repressive dictatorships (see the files on Chile released under the Freedom of Information Act, see The Revolution Will Not Be Televised - a documentary on Hugo Chavez, look up information on the contras in Nicaragua and U.S. actions in other central american nations, inquire into U.S. support for the genocide of 200,000 committed by Indonesia upon East Timor, read about the real history of the war in Vietnam and what really happened there, the list goes on). also, why not end the tyranny of economic dependency committed against post-colonial sweatshop countries?
