The only thing I could think of is that these people got their tongue rings stuck together. Otherwise y would there be an xray?

Actually they did exist back in the day for many reasons, Many people got sick and died from using them but after people realized the effects of radiation they were taken out of use. You'll find em in hospitals being used for a fraction of a second to take a pic of your bone structure etc.
