No it is not a fake.
I had a buddy at the gym have something similar, but not nearly this bad happen a couple years ago.
His foot broke in half as he set the weight back in the rack. He was in an air cast for 7 months.

yeah actually that is common in the weight lifting tournaments..but that is one of the worst ones i've seen yet..poor guy..that's why i always use 3 spotters and a rack underneath me...i've been stuck on the bottom before, its not cool!!
