I doubt the machines actualy caught fire - unless there was some extremely strong power surge, computers dont just spontaneously combust.

I guess this is some weird version of a home-made water cooling system.

I would say that is 100% redneck engineered cooling for them thar CPU's.

For our machinery, we have conch shell style blowers because some of the resistors reach like 300 degC or more during a surge such as forward motion, stop, reverse actions.
