I didn't know that... 7.8 that is serious movement... NZ gets a few regular shakes but that is serious for such a densly populated area. Do you get earthquakes where you live SoR... Sweets hates the idea of earthquakes but then she lives in a tornado area and I couldn't bear to live in that sort of danger... go figga... LIFE, we aint gonna get out of it alive.

Chicago is on bedrock... but there is that pesky new madrid fault line not too far away... I've never experienced a quake...

New Zealand is notorious for it's fault lines... we are almost put together like a jigsaw. I used to collect fossils which means I had to know a bit about NZ geology... that is when I found out that NZ has a big number of faultlines, 9 if I remember. I live within 5miles of 3 faultlines running parallel to each other. I have never experienced anything bigger than a 5, but my bookcases and tall furniture are bolted to the wall as is my hot-water tank.... that is all you can do to protect your stuff. I don't get frightened of them, they come and go before you can do much but dive into the nearest cupboard or door jamb.
But Hey at least I am not further up north where they have all these live volcanos
