Lou Reed actually. Lou wrote many of the VU's songs, dealing with issues relating to him (like heroin, S&M, transvestites, etc. [Andy Warhol's Factory was a screwed up place]). Lou went to Syracuse University, trying to get a degree in English, but later dropped out (he recieved an honorary degree later), and his songs have a sense of deeper meaning and storytelling.
