Affirmative action was never about giving jobs to minorities, strictly based on their race or sex.
It was about giving the job to a minority IF they're equally as qualified (or more so) as their white counterpart.

Minorities weren't getting any good jobs, prior to affirmative action. Regardless of educational levels. They could have been Harvard graduates. The job was given to a white man.

Forcing companies to hire minorities was really the only way to get it done, in the beginning.

And, minorities are STILL getting paid 30% less than white men.

Unfortunately, the way it was intended is nowhere near the way it was implemented. Minorities have been given preferential treatment, which ends up setting them up for failure. This also is at least partially responsible for the pay discrepancy (Affirmative Action forced them to be hired, despite not being qualified, so they don't get the raises, promotions, etc.)

The best way to fix the majority of the problem is to fix the schools, at every level. Get them TRULY prepared, and they won't need extra help to get hired.

I'm not naive enough to think this will end all discrimination in hiring, but it will level the playing field, so to speak. There are minority employers who disproportionately hire minorities (which is no different - it's still discrimination.) It will, however, minimize the problem.

I do not agree with a word that you say, but will defend to the death your right
to say it.
