I'll shock some people here on this. What is the government doing dictating marriage? Is it morals? Wouldn't that be a church issue? If you are gay you will find a church to marry you.

Why should someone's beliefs dictate someone else? What harm to me will happen if two gay people marry? It doesn't infringe on my rights. Sure, I may not believe in what they do, but they will have to answer for this.

I do have to bring the discussion back on what is the government right to dictate who loves who. What if I want three wives and a husband? We are on this separation of church and state kick in this country. If I can find a church to marry all of us it should be morally fine!

People here in Connecticut are having fits over this. We just voted last week not to amend our state constitution. We are the most liberal in the country. Now every one is complaining and there is nothing they can do!

I was intrigued to do some research in this. What I found was marriage for centuries was nothing more than an agreement between two people. This is no different that if you and I went into business together, no license is required. Over time it was an agreement with families like in arranged marriages.

Here is some really interesting fun facts:

George Washington was married without a marriage license. So, how did we come to this place in America where marriage licenses are issued?

Historically, all the states in America had laws outlawing the marriage of blacks and whites. In the mid-1800's, certain states began allowing interracial marriages or miscegenation as long as those marrying received a license from the state. In other words they had to receive permission to do an act which without such permission would have been illegal.

Not long after these licenses were issued, some states began requiring all people who marry to obtain a marriage license. In 1923, the Federal Government established the Uniform Marriage and Marriage License Act (they later established the Uniform Marriage and Divorce Act). By 1929, every state in the Union had adopted marriage license laws.

Today, in New York and Texas, 13 year olds can marry with a court's permission. Or they can wait until they're 14 and get their parent's permission. (But only if you're a male in New York). You can get married at 14 in Utah if you've already been married or with parental permission.

My thoughts on the subject are that this is a big wierd and wonderful world and if you can find someone that makes you feel wonderful and that person wants to join thier life with yours then what does it matter to others... Black or white, male of female... Real Love is so damn hard to find and so many people settle for what is acceptable instead of finding what is wonderful.
If we are blessed enough to find someone that makes us feel like dancing in the rain then I say grab them with both hands and Love them with all your heart. Marriage is a contract that says "I want to commit the rest of my life to You" That's a huge promise to make and we had better be with the person that danced in the rain with us.... or it is going to be a long lonely winter.
This year was the first time I understood the words 'Soul Mate'. Anyone who can find that person is the luckiest person in the world!

Oh and another question.... I thought the state & church was to be seperate??? A contract is just that a legal binding document that states these 2 people are NOW 1!!!! We will never get over the problems here if we don't wake up and smell the coffe... we are all God's children... He is the only one we have to answer to when the time comes
And being a HOMOPHOBIC says you don't like them but in reality they are scared that they too may like the lifestyle.. Remember he who protests too much are what??? guilty too?? just my opinon tho...

Connecticut is looking for any way to get revenue... you can only make maple syrup from tree sap for so long during the year...they needed money for the yellow rain slickers and hats.
