Hi to all who read this,
Here is my observations on engineering around the world, imagine a gearbox with a hole in it to inspect the teeth of a gear that needs a cover designing.
American:- Steel plate, gasket, four fixing bolts with locking washers that are easy to get at.
Idiology- Simple solutions are best.
British:- Same as the American idea, but the bolt are probably covered by other component.
Idiology- I've designed it the fitters will make it work.
German- Steel plate machined to a 0.001mm tolerance, gasket plus sealant, 12 bolts torqued down Loctited in and lockwired.
Idiology- Over-engineer it, make it complicated and difficult to work on.
Japanese:- Design a window to put in the hole to inspect the gear whilst stopped or running, with a hinged flap.
Idiology- Look at problem, look at everybody elses solution and improve.
