this is a true story,it just happened yesturday.
Anne's friend works in a local shop, she had her cell phone( it was a contract one not pay as you go,one ) behind the counter.
some arsehole stole it and must of found out it was a contract phone and knew they could not sell it.so the thief left a text message on her land line phone at her home, saying they found it in the street and would bring it back if she gave hin £20.she cancelled the phone( that made it unusable)
the only thing that really upset her is that she had some photos of the grandchild on it.

The phone co,'s dont tell you this but they should. This way they can make more $$ off you..Have you ever wondered why phone companies don't seem interested in trying to prevent the theft of mobile phones? If you have ever lost, or had one stolen, and if you are on a plan, you still have to pay the plan approximately up to 24 months, and you have to buy another handset and enter into another contract. This is more revenue for the phone company.
1. There is a simple way of making lost or stolen mobiles useless to thieves and the phone companies know about it, but keep it quiet.
To check your mobile phone's serial number, key in the following on your phone:
(*#06# ) A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This is unique to your handset. Write it down & keep it safe. Should you phone get stolen or lost you can call your carrier and provide them this 15 digit code number and they MUST
shut down the phone even if they( thieves) replace the sim card your phone is TOTALLY USELESS NOW to them..
Also on a lighter note,,, Need 411? don't call it. call 1-800-FREE-411 or 1-800 373-3411, with out incurring any charges! I don't know if this works across the POND as they say... But it does work anywhere in the U.S.A.
ass, okay?
