Yes, that's true, So this is why you must take down that serial number and call your carrier to cancel out that phone all together. If you do it they CAN NOT USE IT at all. It don't matter what phone or carrier you use THEY MUST shut down the phone and no other carrier can turn it back on. It's now a useless phone. But you have to call them and report the phone ASAP. Their sim card will not work! You may not have that phone anymore but neither do they! Stupid Theifs!!

they cant shut down a phone, they can only shut down a SIM card. My friend has 2 phones: one cheap and one nice. He swaps the SIM card from one phone to the other

It has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SIMS CARD,,, Call your carrier and ask them.. I've had my phone stolen 2 times and BOTH TIMES I got nasty phone calls on my land line informing me of what a CU*T I was and I'll never see the pics or video's again, They never said OH! I found your phone and tried to return it for a reward, but they did get personal numbers and other info off the cell. It caused a lot of grief. But now as soon as I get a new cell I write down the 15 digit code and save it. I'm still waiting for that video to show up here or someplace else... Mind you it was not a bad or porno video but a private video never the less!!! Check it out Mino,, Just once listen to the old lady !!

I don't know how they do it by you but here they
can shut the phone off for good and no other carriers can get it turned back on, They get a code message when the carriers do try to turn it on, It tells them that this phone was reported stolen or lost.. And then the guy behind the counter looks at you like your a theif. And they don't buy the stories people say..ie.. What? You can't ACTIVATE this? I just bought it! and when questioned they(thieves) usally say I bought it at a flea market.. Yeah, sure you did kid. And that said carrier has the option of calling the cops on you or let you walk out of their store knowing that the phone is totally useless! 9 times out of 10 they let the idiots walk. Cause they know the it's not worth the shop keepers time to call the cops. It's not their personal phone.. so why should they care?? Sad but true
So I guess your son might have been telling you the truth!!
