With Christmas right around the corner, we are bound to be receiving a few of those Gloriously anticipated holiday loafs that we are so fond of. And please note that this post is referring to those that are massed produced by those Commercially run Bakeries, and not to those that are deliciously home-made by our friends here on Ugoto.

Innovative Uses for Fruitcake

- Hold up your car when changing tires

- Slice and use for poker chips

- Use as replacement for Duraflame log

- Take it camping with you...use it to weigh down the tent

- Stand on it when you change a lightbulb

- Put it in the back of your car/truck for snow/ice driving

- Replaces free weights when you work out

- Use as book ends in your library

That looks disgusting!

As a Yorkshire lass, I'm rather fond of a slice of (my own) homemade fruitcake, with a bit of Wensleydale cheese.

Oh I have no disrect for the homemade fruit cakes. I have a Friend who makes a good fruitcake just as you do.

I'm just thinking of those commercial sold ones that has given it the bad publicity. The ones you can use for Bricks.

I appreciate that you weren't referring to homemade cakes Brian, but I'm surprised you didn't comment on the eating it with cheese bit. Most people outside of my home county think that is a pretty weird habit

Have to say though, I haven't seen any fruitcake that looks as revolting as the one you posted - not even shop-bought ones, so I think your list for alternative uses has some very good ideas

Wouldn't use it as a bookend though - I like my books too much

I usually don't think too much about how people eat certain things. Especially since on this site we are socializing with people from didn't parts of the world with different cultures. I recall you mentioned once before that you have an English Accent, thus from England (your Profile confirmed it)

I personally wouldn't consider eating cheese with fruitcake. However I wouldn't dismiss the idea if it was offered to me. Again however, I must admit that I am not familiar with the kind of cheese that you mention. Perhaps it is the kind of cheese that is commonly eaten with cake in England?

The fruitcake/cheese combination isn't very typically English, I think it's fairly local to the county of Yorkshire (my home county). Wensleydale cheese is made only in the village of Hawes (in North Yorkshire - see pic) and if you know the Wallace & Gromit animation movies, it's Wallace's favourite cheese.

Wow, what pretty countryside.

So what kind of cheese is it is it a mild cheese or does it have pleasant taste or what. Some cheese I would touch like Blue cheese or Limburger cheese or anything that smells like it belongs in Gym Locker.

Yeah, it is pretty, isn't it? We Yorkshire folk tend to refer to the county as God's county. We're the Texans of England! Below is my home town, Scarborough.

I can't believe I'm having this conversation lol, but Wensleydale cheese is is mild flavoured sheep's milk cheese. It is creamy textured, but also slightly crumbly. This time of year, you can buy it with added cranberries, and there is also a blue-veined version. I like the cranberry one, but I'm not a fan of blue cheeses.

PS: Seeing as Konifur is lurking just below these posts, I thought I'd mention that he's from a bit further up that same coast.

Your town is extremely picturesque.

Ive never eaten any cheese that wasn't from Cows milk. However I would try it if I had the opportunity. I think I remember as a child trying Goats milk and recall not liking it very well, but as a child I didn't like alot of things that I eat now.

Mozzarella is traditionally made from buffalo milk, so if you eat pizza....

Sheep's milk is milder than goat's - lots of people don't like goat's cheese, but as you say, things you don't like as a child can change. I used to hate cheese of any kind.

So, I've shown you mine - you show me yours. What's your part of the world like?

I'll have to look around for some pics of the general area. Unless of course you would like to see a pic of our run down farm house.

I found a scenic picture not far from where I live...

Let me know if you want to see my house.

Sorry the pic compressed smaller then it should have I'll repost below

It looks so vast - there are hardly any places in the UK where you can see for such a distance. I like to climb up as high as I can so that I can see for miles, cos I like the feeling of wide open space. A bit like my brain at times!
