I Was In Prison ... I Mean, The Hospital Again.

Well, I was in the hospital again.
I went into the ER on Wednesday afternoon. I was admitted on Thursday night. I just got out today.
I was in SO MUCH PAIN. It was absurd. I'd never felt any kind of pain like that. I could barely speak. It hurt so much !
Demoral (sp?) is some good shit !
It was a different hospital than last time. This one was affiliated with my doctors/medical center. So, my records were easily available to them. That made it easier. Less questions.
It was better than the last one. But, not better, in some ways.
Some of the nurses were just lovely. On the other hand, some of them were annoyed to do basic things, like get me my pain meds & change my sheets. I understand that they're overworked & underpaid. But, oh well. They shouldn't have gotten into the field. Do your job, or quit.
Anyway, I ended up changing my own sheets, getting my own ice water & my own meals. Not that these things are so difficult. It's just that, as a patient, I shouldn't have had to do any of that. One "nurse" sucked her teeth, rolled her eyes & groaned when I asked her to get someone to change my sheets.
The doctors were good enough. Although, they were itching to rip out my girly stuff. And, they were a bit cold. Not just to me. But, in general.
I denied surgery, given that I'm too young for that kind of procedure.
Plus, I don't trust them.
So, I'm getting a second oppinion.
I'll need some type of abdominal surgery, in the near future.
I've also taken an extended leave of absence, from my job. And, may not go back to the field at all.

Oh yeah ... Jahmel & I are quitting smoking within a month.
YAY !!

That sucks, you have my sympathy. Good for you on the surgery. Remember doctors say they "practice" medicine. Get a second or third opinion then choose the one who is going to practice on you carefully. I work in lots of hospitals (some in the city) and none of them are a visit to the spa.

I do not fear for our future, it's to late for that.

best of luck to you
i hope you either feel better, or find a nice nurse

i find that a good substitute for smoking is dip. or if you mean marijuana, just vaporize it.

Dip ? ... Okay.

We're getting prescriptions for a smoking cessation drug. It actually does something to the pleasure center of the brain & more or less makes you loose the desire to smoke.
I've heard so many good things about it. I'm really excited. Smoking is boring now anyway.
We were planning on quitting soon, anyway. It's just going to happen earlier than expected.
Withdrawal is the "easy" part. It's the breaking of the habit that's hard. The drug makes that part easy.
I think it'll work out nicely.

I quit about 2 years ago. You are right, the addiction is the easy part. Getting out of the habbit of smoking every time you get in the car or when you have some drinks ect. is the difficult part. I would just substitute sunflower seeds in the times I would otherwise be smoking. It seamed to help. Anyway good luck!

24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case...coincidence?

And, thank you to Anne, as well !

I'm really looking forward to being smoke free. It feels so much like a monkey on my back. More than ever before.
I'm also looking forward to saving all of that money.
Plus, with my health, I need to have nothing holding me back. There's a lot of meds I can't be on, because I smoke. That's not helping me.
I think it'll be easier to quit this time, because of the prescription they gave me. And, also because I have an immediate reason to quit. It's not just about what may or may not happen in the distant future anymore. Although, that's still factor.
Anyhoo ... I think I can do it.

And yeah, it's been rough. But, I'm really trying to take it all in stride. After all, what kind of New Yorker would I be if I let this take me out.
lol

So sorry to hear that this is giving you trouble again. Surgery is scary stuff. Is work any way related to the continued aggravation? If you don't go back into the field, what will you do for work? Please be careful with them pain meds.

Thank you ! :)

I've never had surgery before & am quite nervous about it.

I only had demoral in the beginning, because nothing else would work. Actually, demoral only took about half of the pain away.
Then, they put me on perkiset (sp?), which didn't really cut the mustard. But, was okay.
I was & am nervous about addiction.
They sent me home with some pain meds. I turned the vicitin (sp?) down because it's so highly addictive. Even though it's more effective than what I have.

Nah, work doesn't have anything to do with it.

I may get a government job, or something.
We're moving to Sacramento, once all this health stuff is taken care of. All they have is governemnt jobs there.

Bloody hell, lass, you ain't having it easy are you? I truly hope you manage to get it all sorted soon.

And good luck to both you and Jahmel on giving up smoking. Giving up is easy, I've done it forty or fifty times - the staying given up is the hard part.

Yeah, I'm really being put through it.
lol
But, what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.
At least I have medical insurance. There's a lot of people with worse medical issues, that have no insurance at all.
Although, I am absolutely terrified.

We're going on a drug, to help quit smoking. In short, it makes you loose the desire for cigarettes. And, apparently works very well.

Would that drug to quit smoking by chance be Chantix?
I just did a 3 month run of that. I also heard it did great for so many people. It didn't work for me. The only thng it did was make me dizzy for the first 3 days. Nothing after that. It was also expensive. I had high hopes too! I guess I will keep on trying.

Hello Sarah, so sorry your having such a hard time of it. I would get another opinion too just to make sure both doctors say the same thing. If you do need surgery it's not so bad, I had a partial hystorectomy about 7 yrs ago, a little pain ut the morphine helped that out just fine, then sent me home with percoset which by that time worked pretty good!! Your only in the hospital a couple of days then your out, so don't be scared ok, if it does turn out you need surgery. take care.

Hey Sarah, Baby you are carrying your share of shit Honey, It rips my heart to hear what you are going through, I'm glad Jahmel is there to share the load. It is good that you are giving away the ciggies... it is a well known fact that smoking inhibits healing after illness and should(God forbid) you have to have an op. there is alsorts of dangers and problems if you smoke. Hang in there Brave Sarah, this year is almost finished and there is a fresh new one just waiting to bring you better and greater things.
