I had this kitty, that I got when he was only a week old. He was abandoned & I took him him & raised him myself.
Well, he had problems. The main problem was that he threw up, all the time. And, my sonofabitch landlord finally decided that I had to get rid of him, because of that (he was "ruining" the 8 year old carpet).
To make a long story short, I refused to take him to a shelter & really didn't think that anyone would take him, given his issues. But, a friend found this girl, in another state, that was willing to take him in, for me. Problems & all.
She's a lovely girl. And, I know my little Skeet will be well taken care of.
But the thing is, I'm SO SAD about having to give him away. I'm really attached to him.
Jahmel took him to work with him, this morning. And, the girl is going to pick him up at Jahmel's job. So, my little, baby kitty is really gone. There's no turning back now.
But, you have no idea how sad I am about this.

My question is ...
Have you ever had to give away a pet, against your will ?
If so, how did you handle it ?

I feel your pain. About 7 years ago, when my cheating ex-husband left me with a newborn. I had no choice but to move from my house into a subsidized apartment. That meant finding a home for my 8-year old boxer. I can't say you ever 'get over' it but the saddness does fade. I still think of Taetum alot. I just have to believe she lived the rest of her life happy on a farm.
I also believe they come back to you in future pets. I now have a dog that has the same personality and acts just like my boxer. I know it sounds weird but it kinda consoling to think she came back to me just in a different dog body.

Sorry for you loss.

I'm sorry Sarah. That sucks you have to give away your kitty.

I had to give up my cat when he was around 11 years old because my step-dad didn't want a cat in his condo when my mom and I moved in with him.

At least you'll know that your kitty is being well taken care of.

Getting rid of pets is hard enough. But, at 11 years old ... it must've been extra hard for you.

we had a golden retreiver, who was 10 when i was born. She was the calmest, sweetest dog, and would do tricks like you could balance a bisket on her nose and she wouldnt go for it unless you told her to. We had to put her down when i was in kindergarten, but my parents never told me, so i never got to say goodbye.

also, we've always had cats, but unfortunatly, our neighborhood has always had coyotes. Its always painful to come back from a trip (because the cats cant be left inside) and not be able to find a cat. Luckily now, we have our nieghbor let our cats in and out

My advice is to get a new kitty.

Just Kidding!!

That really sucks !

I'm sorry. :(

I already have 2 other cats. So, a new cat isn't totally nessesary. I really just miss this particular cat.
Today's only the first day, without him. And, I had to say goodbye twice (the girl was running late, so Jahmel came home with the cat, for a bit). But, I'm sure it'll get better. But today, I'm quite sad.
I just get too attached, too easily.

I had a cokier spaniel once a great dog so well trained, I loved him so much, but he hated children. I got pregnant a little while after getting him and I knew it would not be safe around my baby so I had to give him up, it just about killed me, you know that was 19 yrs ago and I still think about him? I just have to hope he had found a really good couple to love him and he was happy!

That sucks babe,

I cant really relate as all my pets have died in one way or another, such as dogs being run over, cats going away and never returning and shit like that.

Atleast he is going to a good home, I guess you can take comfort in that idea.

I really wish i had something more meaningful to say lol

Common sense is not so common.

I am feeling your heartbreak. For the last year the neighbors cat has come around for a visit every few days. Sometimes for a short visit, sometimes for an overnight stay. She got pregnant and decided to have her kittens here. The neighbor is okay with it as she has kids, and other animals and a lot of traffic in and out of her home. It has been ten weeks now, and time for the kittens to be given to new homes. I am so attached to all of them, it will be hard to let them go. I have been dreading this for a few weeks now, and will be sad when the time comes. Feeling your sorrow

I used to have a lab. I got him when I was about 6 and then when i was 12 he ran away with my other dog and never came back. I found out that my sisters bus driver had hit him. the painful thing is that shes my bus driver now. Or atleast until i turn 16 and can drive to school.

My dad and Me named him Ozzy after the singer.

If being gay or bi was wrong, and the church today is fully against same-sex

Eh, you kind of know what I went through, and even though it was only a couple months and I got my dog back it still kills me to think about that moment when I found out where my pup was at.

Other than that, we've had to get rid of 2 dogs in my lifetime. Both had obedience problems to the point where they'd just sorta snap. Food aggression is strong in some, and for some it just can't be dealt with in a manner that is safe for everyone else in the home.

Sorry to hear about your kitty! They aren't animals to people like us, they're our children.

He is my baby.

I miss him too much.

My landlord actually came down here this morning & told me that I didn't have to get rid of him, if I didn't want to.
Of course, he says this 2 days after I gave him away.
I'm really mad at my landlord & quite sad that I already gave him away.

You need to put some cat poop in a box and leave it on your landlords porch.

Oh Sarah. I know how you feel.
When we moved to Kenya we had to give our dog away. It was very sad. We got really mad when we came for a visit and dscovered that the lady who took him (Mother's aunt) gave him away.
Few years ago we adopted a kitten we found in out compound. She was so so so cute! But after few weeks we went for a very long holiday and couldnt leave her at home. So we gave her to an animal shelter. Im still thinking about her and I hope she have a better home.

Now I have my very beloved Kitty. Whos my baby. When I'll leave Kenya, I'll have to leave her here, as it'd be so hard to get her out of the country. It really upset me. I know my parents will take care of her. But what will happen when they leave?
I'm going to try my best to get Kitty to leave with me. I dont know what I'll do without her. I'll kill me to know she's be left here. Even with another family.

BTW Sarah, I hope you're feeling better!
And maybe you can get Skeet back now?

Aw. I'm sorry. :(

Selfishly, I do want him back. I can't deny that.
But, I can't very well ask for him back. Because she's already put a bunch of time, money & energy into him. That wouldn't be fair to her. You know what I mean ?!
But, I did talk to her today. And, if for some reason it doesn't work out (that's a distinct possibility), Jahmel & I will drive up there & get him back.
If not, then she said she'd send pictures of him, via e-mail, from time to time.

And yeah, I'm feeling better. I'm still not 100%. But, a lot better. But, I'm still running around getting tests done. And, I'm still not allowed to do much. They're still not totally sure what the problem is. It could be my appendix or my ovaries. But it's hard to tell, given the close proximity to eachother.
I was hoping I could go back to work this week. But apparently not.
So sooner or later, I'll be done with this.
I really hope I'm able to go to my cousin's wedding, in September. As of right now, I'm not even allowed to leave my neighborhood, let alone travel almost half way across the country for 10 days.

I'm so glad to hear you're feeling better now! I hope they'll find out whats the problem soon. Iit must be so annoying, and I bet it can be so crap being stuck like that.
Hope you'll be able to go to your cousin's wedding and that thning will be fine soon.
Get well soon!
