I was trying to find a story about 2 parents charged with child abuse by starving them while the parents played video games... so I searched for child abuse ... in Google News with the results of

Results 1 - 50 of about 16,142 for child abuse. (0.43 seconds

That large number of stories even from the last week or less is why I get so pissed off at times at peoples flippant attitudes towards raising children, or principles applying to same.

Considering only 10% or less of abusers even get into a story...those numbers are staggering.

That those pieces of shit are allowed to live or have kids in the first place is just a crime against humanity.

There's so much child abuse out there, because no one wants to get involved. Or they just plain don't believe the kid's complaints.

That's why my parents got away with it.

I don't hang out here much anymore...

The problem is not that abusers are not caught so much as the political correct BS that is so rampant in the system. Take a look at the employees of the federal and state systems, then take another look at those who are prosecuted and those who aren't. You will find a great deal of disparity and almost always in a direction that will astonish you.

Your right, too much abuse is over looked because of who the parents are and how they are precieved by the community around them....all abusers, rich, poor, black ,white, red, or yellow, city, rural, in this country or another should be locked up or shot, depending on the case, no other choices.......

Has anyone read the Dave Pelzer trilogy of of his growing up as an abused child. It is a moving story and it makes one ask why is this allowed to go on.
The first book is called: A Child Called "It"
The second book: The Lost Boy
And the last one: A man Named Dave

I used to work in mental health, with a support group for survivors of child abuse, and sometimes wish i didn't know as much about the subject as i do. i think part of the problem is that people feel so uncomfortable acknowledging it. they don't want to believe that it could possibly touch their lives, that the 'nice' people down the street could do things like that, and yet statistically, every street has a child abuser, so most of us probably do know some.

Why is it drug addicts and computer afficionados are both called users?

I had the link to the story. I don't know where it is anymore. From what I remember they pleaded guilty and are waiting on sentrencing.

As a counter to what everybody has been saying, one thing I've noticed is what is considered abuse has increased over the last 50 years. Teacher whacks a brat over the head - abuse
Dad smacks his kid for doing drugs - abuse
The problem is too many things are considered abuse. My dad beat the living hell out of me a couple times because I stole something once (yes,....jsut once then I never did it again) and I lied to the police to protect a friend.
Today, my dad would be in jail for that. There is no longer any distinction between discipline and abuse.

i totally agree. there is a huge difference between discipline, which may sometimes be physical, and systematic abuse. unfortunately, no amount of legislation will stop abusers. it is only the caring, law abiding parents, who use physical punishment as a last resort that are stopped.

There is still a difference between Discipline and Abuse.

Although years of the ACLU have tried to stomp it out.

Discipline, ass paddling...mental cruelty...chores...grounding...

Abuse, 12 skull fractures, cigarette burns all up and down a childs arm, starvation, non treatment of disease,

Theres a lot of difference between a swat on the ass and grabbing a kid by the arm and flinging them into a wall causing broken arm and internal injuries.

It's the common sense thing again.

There just isnt as much common sense as there used to be... or perhaps we should change the term to Uncommon Sense.

forced sterilization should be handed down by the courts as a punishment more often. how often do people abuse thier kids, get them taken away, and then just turn around and have more?

the more people we punish that way, the more we root out fucked up people.

AND... the people who do have the kids can make those kids so fu*cked up that they can one day turn into serial killers especially if their mothers abuse them:

Ed Gein
Charles Manson
Bobby Jo Long

But the good parents who discipline their kids as a last resort shouldn't be shown as abusers.

My dad was by my sister. She was being a b*tch, and my dad put her in line really quick. She told a friend who in turn told the parents who told someone and they called child services. My mom, dad, sister, and me ( I was 9-11 years old) had to see a therapist.

If being gay or bi was wrong, and the church today is fully against same-sex
love. Then does that mean they think that molesting children is "okay"? I think
those people are the biggest hypocrites second only to the politicians.

Another example of what's blurring the line: A former coworker's exwife made false allegations of child abuse against him, to get custody and lots of child support. The only way he could get visitation was to agree to never hit the kids for any reason (including slapping a hand away from an electrical outlet or hot stove.)

I do not agree with a word that you say, but will defend to the death your right
to say it.

That sucks. and that is not fair for the man.

Why didn't the judge ask for evidence against the man?

That is a good thought, BUT there are many adopted children, and those in foster care who face this abuse also.
A local case here not to long ago, where the adopted child ended up dead.Beat the child for eating food, duct tape him to furniture, ended up hitting him in the head with a hammer, and dumping him in a swamp. Reported him runaway. took a year to find him. They were reported for previous abuse, they moved to this county, investigations start new.... Local authorities say funding cuts limit man power to investigate ....

Why the hell bring children if you're going to treat them like that?!

because so many people do not think about"birth conrol",then they have kids they didn't want in the first place so they abuse them like it was there fault for being born. If people don't want kids they need to learn to take precautions to not have kids its not a very hard thing to do.

Well yes and no,I don't believe abortion is a birth control answer, in certain cases like rape, or your health, or something bad is wrong with the child, but just to have an abortion just because you won't use protection, just a bad idea. I have a niece that has had several abortions because she won't use protection, I just don't get that.thats just the way I feel about it everyone has there own opinion I know!

Here in New Zealand they have just passed an anti-smacking bill... I go to the supermarket and see all these frustrated parents with kids going crazy trying to get stuff that thier parents have said no to. The kid is screaming and throwing themselves and stuff around and we all know that a quick smack on the butt would fix it... but the parents are to afraid to do it because it's now against the law.
It sucks, Love is discipline... and those mother-fuckers that abuse kids they still do it, they don't give a bugger about the law. There is already a law against murder but the F*ckers still murder these kids. The Law Is An Ass!!!
