Overwhelming Grief.

Older But Not Wiser

It seems the wonderful Christians have taken control of the medical field. Doctors and hospitals can refuse to give treatment simply because they think it's morally wrong. And, they also don't feel any responsibility to refer the patients to somebody who will actually do the treatment. And it's not just about abortion (which I feel is wrong, and for non-Christian reasons), but is in fact mostly centered on treatments for women. Which isn't surprising, since Christianity is a major cause of the lack of women's equality. Any doctor who refuses to do any legal procedure within his field should immediately lose his license and his job.

She'd been raped hours earlier by a man she knew — a man who had assured Boyer, 35, that he only wanted to hang out at his place and talk. Instead, he had thrown her onto his bed and assaulted her.

In the wild she would have been eaten by a wolf in her teens...

Shes not exactly a Mensa candidate is she?

it's a news site....a bit to the left, but a news site. Of ocurse, I wouldn't expect somebody like to you bother reading it anyway. Catholics are always doing the right thing, even when it kills millions of people.

most radicals aren't catholics? Besides muslim extremists and Catholics, who else has been a radical...

Spanish inquisition, supporters of the killing of jews, The IRA...

Not saying you don't have the ability to be a good god-fearing man, but you have to admit that the catholic church has a history of being pretty radical.

I thought the hippocratic oath stated that doctors cannot refuse treatment to a patient

I love my mother. But, she's totally fucked in the head.

the hippocratic oath isn't law. it's a bullshit oath given just like any other - the president, lawyers, etc. It doesn't mean anything

This is ridiculous.

I am part of a religion that does not believe in taking blood transfusions, nor do we believe in abortions. I am also a nursing student. This is not a conflict of interests at all, and should not be for this idiot doctor.

Each person has the god given (If you believe in god) right of freedom of choice. If someone allows a blood transfusion for any given reason that's their choice. As a christians we should know that Judgement is not within our place. None of us have the knowledge or wisdom to judge justly.

well, I would say that anyone has the right to do what they want if it doesn't hurt or hinder others, yeah the girl needs an abortion, yeah the docter has a right of choice as well. I haven't read the story but as long as he refeered the girl to another place nearby i dont think it should be an issue

Common sense is not so common.

that's a part of the problem. they don't feel it's their duty as a doctor to refer them to people who will proivde services they want or need.

I agree. The doctor was wrong, on many levels.

BUT ... what's to say that this chick couldn't have just found another doctor, on her own.

She's a grown ass woman. Research more doctors & shut the fuck up about it.

I just left the hospital, partly because I didn't approve of the care I was recieving. Therefore, I have to find a new doctor.
Period.
It's my body. It's my responsibility.

I think your completely right.

But there are cases of infertility clinics turning away lesbians and unmarried mothers and that is completely wrong. But they can also look for other infertility clinics.

I also hope you get better soon.

If being gay or bi was wrong, and the church today is fully against same-sex
love. Then does that mean they think that molesting children is "okay"? I think
those people are the biggest hypocrites second only to the politicians.

I think when you become a professional in any field especially in the medical field you waive your right to make a moral decision about taking care of someone whether you think its right or wrong your job is to take care of the person to the best of your ability. Leave moral issues out of this and do your job!

What lies behind us and What lies before us are tiny matters compared to what
lies within us.

I think that medical practitioners have every right to refuse NON-EMERGENCY treatments that they feel are wrong.

NOTE: The morning-after pill in cases of rape WOULD be considered emergency treatment.

I do not agree with a word that you say, but will defend to the death your right
to say it.
--falsely attributed to Voltaire, but likely a statement he would have agreed
with.
