Does anyone have plain, simple, inexpensive gift ideas for the holidays?I have a friendship bread recipie. The bread/muffins are delicious as gifts and you share the batter!
It is a old recipie....grandma called it HERMAN bread.
HERMAN starter dough
2 cups of flour 1tsp.salt 1T active dry yeast 2-1/2 cups lukewarm water 3T sugar
Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup of water.Add remaining 2cups water,flour,salt and sugar.Mix well in a non-metal bowl.
Cover loosely with wax paper for 5-10 days untilbubbly.Stir each morning.
On the 5th day feed Herman=1/2 cup of sugar,1 cup of milk and 1 cup of flour.Stir until smooth. This is Herman's 1st feeding and this is what you feed him on the 1st and 5th day.Count this as day one.Cover loosely and refridgerate. Each day stir and re-cover Herman and refridgerate. On the 5th day feed again, stir each day,on the 10th day, keep 2 cups to bake bread with, keep 1 cup for growing Herman again and give the remaining 1 cup away.
I will give the recipie for the bread next.
