ok i have a little rant for yall today. Our school system installed a biometric scanner with a account in our lunch rooms. This allows you to put cash on the account and then pay for your food with your account by havin them scan your finger print. So i come home at about 5:00 pm today and my bro tells me that i owed the school money. Im like WTF, and he say that my cafiteria called today saying i owe them $3.23. Im like wha this cannot happen cause the only way i could owe money is if i used the scanner which i don't, i pay cash.

arrrrrggggggggggggggggggggggggg!!!!!

As a parent I may have a problem with this system. Did they get parent's permission to install this system? There is no law that says you have to be fingerprinted unless you break the law especially since we are talking about minors here.

Anyone Else feel this way? Big brother it turns out isn't the government but corporations. I refuse to have a discount card for our drug store because I don't want them tracking my purchases. Not that I purchase anything funky, it's just none of their business!

I hate the ACLU but they were dead on with this one and it is funny to watch the link:

I think privacy is already a thing of the past. Even with just the internet, I can find everything about you. Where you live, phone numbers, drivers license number, your credit history, employment history, bankruptcies, legal action, houses you've bought, cars you own, who your neighbors are, how much they paid for their house, their credit and legal history, their phone number, etc, etc.

My point exactly! But you don't have my fingerprints or DNA....yet. I don't have anything to hide but we just shouldn't have to worry about these things.

well, at lot of it results from the crap in Washington. From the PATRIOT Act, to warrentless wiretaps, secret evidence and courts, etc, etc, that Bush has passed has torn down any remaining obstacles to Americans living in 1984.

I don't agree with any of the stuff Bush has done in the privacy area, simply because it's too easy to abuse, which has shown to be true the last couple years.

I love our debates because we don't get worked up over it, we can agree to disagree!

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." This is a paraphrased quote from Benjamin Franklin which I have agreed with up until now.

We are at war. We aren't always at war but if the liberals continue we will be for quite a while since they are so soft on Islamic Terrorists. World War II seemed to be forever, but it ended. There were many laws that were broken by all parties involved in winning this horrible war. Then life went on as it did before the war began.

I like 99.9% of the people in the WORLD really wouldn't worry about wiretaps or what I borrowed at the library. There have been no news stories about civil liberties truly being violated by citizens by such. It would annoy me to no end if it were publicized but to my knowledge there hasn't been any violations on this.

The Patriot Act could not have been passed only by the president as you know, your congresspeople and sentators had to approve it as well. The checks and balances of the United States.

My biggest concern is the private sector, you sell your private information for a discount!

People will forget what you said.
People will forget what you did.
But people will never forget how you made them feel.

I really don't care much if the government tracks the books I check out at the library, nor do I really care if they listen in on my phone conversations. What I worry about is the loopholes in the processes. There are a couple examples of the PATRIOT Act being used for prosecuting crimes unrelated to terrorism. I think the fact that they were serious crimes is irrelevent. I personally would have taken the SOBs out back and shot them, but he wasn't planning or aiding terrorists.

It's more the ABUSE of the power the governemnt has given itself that worries me. Going kind of off-topic, I think the whole "secret evidence" and "secret courts" and "secret prisons" need to stop now. Maybe my problem is I read too much history, but history says every time "secret anything" becomes common and accepted, bad things happen.

I'm trying to refrain from using the Constitution to support my arguement, because I've realized how little I really know about what it says, and more importantly, what it doesn't. For example, we don't have the right to vote. That's something I didn't really understand till recently.

Anyway, I've gone way off-track, so I'll end it here before Jimmy Hoffa and Elvis become the central figures of a conspiracy.

LOL Hoffa and Elvis!

My main point was about selling your privacy for a discount at a store.

My only point to your comment was that we are at war which you know only too well. Nothing can be changed without the support of the House and Senate. It isn't only the president.

I agree with you about the abuses because that will always happen but is USUALLY caught. Ask the recent Senator from Floriday tonight! Thank God Hoover is dead!

The scanner must either be faulty, or the people at your school that run your school, previously attended your school, if you get my drift.

Biometrics are used in high security places, banks, ets. Retinal scans, palm scans and finger print scans are becoming more and more common, so you'd think that something as simple as paying for a school lunch you wouldn't have any problems.

they are finding out that finger print scans on the retail level dont work much at all, it will often just pick a match at random. Worse yet, you can use a photocopy of a fingerprint to beat the scanner.

Well, I'd complain. I mean, they'd have to have a record of all transactions - date, time, amounts, etc, just like a bank, otherwise the system is useless.

Biometrics is where a scanner scans your finger print or a palm print, or even your retina to determine who you are. Those types of scans are unique to every individual. Think about it 8,000,000,000+ different signatures. Then multiply that by the number of different types, such as palm print, finger print (10 there), toe print, retinal scan etc.

I'm unique, just like everyone else.

we just have our own picture ID cards at my school and we just slide the barcode under a pretty red light and thats it. we use it for lunch and when we leave the school during our off periods.

it is better to be judged by 12 than to be carried by 6.
