I was reading an article about a bill that passed in the House today prohibiting the courts from ruling on the constitutionality of the Pledge of Alliegance.

Here is a quote from that article:

The Rev. Barry Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, said that under the bill, "religious minorities will no longer have the right to go to federal court to defend their deeply held religious beliefs."

My first impression was: what rights, etc, are being violated by continuing to allow the Pledge to be recited in school? If you don't agree with it, don't recite it. Very simple.

I think this quote is a good example of people "making up" rights that don't really exist under the Constitution, and political correctness gone horribly wrong.

Second, how are those people's religious beliefs being threatened? Why would they need to go to court in the first place. Nothing has been done to warrant going to court for anything. Those of you who have read previous blogs of mine know I'm an athiest. I've confused some people because of apparantly conflicting beliefs. I may be an athiest, but I fail to see how reciting the Pledge, or allowing pray in school for that matter, somehow infringes upon any of my "rights".

Now onto the reason I don't feel this bill should be passed:

Very simple: all three branches of government are supposed to be independent. Congress can't tell the Courts what cases they can and can't hear. Doing so defeats the purpose of having a judicial branch.

That's it...quite simple. No religion involved at all, no PCness involved, just plain old common sense and a plain reading of the Constitution.

Anyway....just had to rant for a bit because that quote got me pissed off.

have a nice day.

Well spoken, Alex

I don't have to attend every argument I'm invited to.

This is an age in which one cannot find common sense without a search warrant.

Being politically correct has taken over common sense.

During the sixties my dad always said too much freedom is what will destroy this country, the older I get the more I agree with him.

The sixties brought us hippies and flower children and that is what is running and ruining this country now! These were the same people chanting "make love and not war", "trust no one over thirty" and to "love one another".

These are the people running the country now, and this generation turned out to be the biggest money grubbing me,me,me generation I have ever seen! They still have the protest in their blood hence the frivolous lawsuits and court battles. Any wonder why the ACLU seems to be so powerful?

People will forget what you said.
People will forget what you did.
But people will never forget how you made them feel.

I personally am one that did not recite the Pledge of allegiance in school (dont get me wrong I have respect and appreciation for what the government gives us and does for us.)

I never felt religiously oppressed when everyone else around me was saying it.

do what you think is right, and dont be critical of others.

I too had to say it everyday for 12 years -- it became just a routine and that often causes things to lose there importance or value. I agree Live and let Live. Recite or don't, Pray or don't. God (I do believe and I am a Christian) gave us free will to follow Him or Not. If He our creator does not try and force us to do anything == who else should? No one and no government agency or any organisation has the right to force me to not pray or to not say the allegence to the flag if I chose to (and vice versa).
